A taste of India in Shepparton

Authentic Indian cuisine is now available in Shepparton.

Aangan opened their doors three weeks ago, and owner Sumit Malhotra is looking forward to sharing his culture with the local community.

“We want to introduce local people to new cultures,” Sumit said.

We want to bring “authentic, fresh cuisine to regional areas.”

Aangan originally opened in 2004 in West Footscray.

The popular restaurant chain now has four other locations around Melbourne, with Shepparton being their first regional location.

With many awards under their belt, the Aangan team is looking forward to a new challenge.

Sumit is hoping this new business venture will give him the experience to run his Indian chain in other locations outside of Melbourne.

Local people have been hired to work at the Shepparton store, with six staff currently on board.

The Aangan Shepparton team are hoping to present the same fusion taste, whilst using different techniques and spices.

The Shepparton store will introduce a few new menu items, while maintaining the same consistency and freshness.

“You can get feedback faster in a smaller community. It is a great place to get instant results.”

A function hall has been established in the basement of the building, for events and larger dining groups.

The store is also hoping to introduce some theme nights, with a traditional Bollywood night in the works.

Aangan is located at 67 Fryers Street, Shepparton. Opening hours are 5pm to 9pm Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 10pm on Fridays, and 12pm to 3pm on Saturday.
