When Himanshu Patel decided to open Potato Corner in Shepparton, he was excited to show off the humble potato as the main attraction, rather than a side dish.
Himanshu was first introduced to the business opportunity by a friend, who was looking for franchisees in Victoria.
Without hesitation, Himanshu decided to open a store in Shepparton, one of the first in the state.
‘‘I just thought it might be something people would be interested in,’’ Himanshu said.
‘‘I was looking all over Melbourne, when I found Shepparton Marketplace. The shopping is good here, so I selected it from that.’’
Opening last month, Potato Corner has people drooling at the counters, eagerly awaiting the fried potato snacks.
Potato Corner offers six styles of fry — original, loopy, criss-cut, tater tot, cheesy and sweet potato in three sizes.
Once a size and style is selected, customers can choose from a range of salty, spicy and sweet flavours.
‘‘We have a different type of product, so people are just coming to try everything and there is no popular choice at the moment,’’ Himanshu said.
‘‘It’s totally new for everyone.
‘‘Maybe after a couple of months, we’ll see more trends.’’
Staff member Vimal Ramesan said the overall response had been positive so far.
‘‘We’re serving more than 200 people every day and its growing, ‘‘ Vimal said.
‘‘We have regular customers already."
Himanshu was excited to let people know fried chicken, thickshakes and milkshakes would be joining the menu soon.
Potato Corner is inside Shepparton Marketplace, 110-120 Benalla Rd, Shepparton.
Try the range of flavour combinations Monday to Wednesday from 9 am to 5.30 pm, Thursdays from 9 am to 6 pm, Fridays from 9 am to 9 pm, Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm.
