For more than 30 years, South Shepparton Community Centre has provided a welcoming environment for people of all ages. From humble beginnings as a drop-in centre, the house has blossomed into a vibrant place visited by about 600 people a month.

The centre continues to expand programs each year to support the needs of a diverse community. South Shepparton Community Centre provides social support, adult education, health and wellbeing activities and other community services.

Centre manager Dawn Taylor has seen the space grow into a supportive hub for people throughout all walks of life.

‘‘We have a diverse community in Shepparton and we want to deliver programs for everybody,’’ she said.

‘‘You don’t need to have a reason to come by, just pop in, have a walk through and a cup of coffee.’’ South Shepparton Community Centre offers fun and interactive workshops such as card making, ukulele classes and mosaic lessons.

There is also preaccredited computer training and iPhone navigation lessons. The centre was also fortunate to receive a $5000 donation from RACV, which will support a teacher for the English and Australian citizenship test classes.

A group of about 10 dedicated volunteers make sure programs are always available and participants are taught essential life skills.

With many low-cost or free activities on offer at South Shepparton Community Centre, people will always find an inspiring activity or a friendly face to welcome them.
