Glasson decides on lifestyle change for art lovers’ oasis

February 14, 2018

Robyn Glasson says she had no background in art before working at the store, but she quickly developed a love for it and a creative eye.

Located in the heart of Shepparton is an art lovers’ oasis.

Robyn Glasson and her family opened Glasson’s Art in 2004, after seeing a need in the area for an arts supply store. ‘

‘My daughter-in-law saw the need in town for something of the sort, so she opened the store in Mooroopna,’’ Robyn said.

A couple of years later Glasson’s Art relocated to High St, Shepparton, and Robyn stepped in to help deliver quality art supplies to the area.

Robyn said she had no background in art before working at the store, but she quickly developed a love for it and a creative eye.

‘‘I have learnt a lot over the years. At the start I didn’t even know what size papers were,’’ she said.

‘‘I enjoy what I do, I guess it has become my lifestyle.’’

Glasson’s Art sells a range of art supplies, including papers, paints, brushes and pencils.

They also offer custom framing and run regular art workshops.

Robyn said the workshops were for people of all ages, teaching them the basics of art and allowing them to work on unique projects such as pottery and weaving.

Robyn does not take the workshops herself, specialist tutors come in and show participants everything they need to know.

Robyn also co-ordinates regular cafe sketching classes, bringing a group of people to a location in Shepparton to sketch, create and develop an artwork out of the visions around them.

‘‘The cafe sketching has been really popular, people enjoy plain air painting,’’ she said.

While Robyn said working at the store had become part of her retirement, she plans to one day hand the business over to her daughter who does all of the custom framing.

The store frames the work of a number of local artists, including Nicky Kriss, who produces vibrant abstract pieces.

Robyn said her time in the store came as a lifestyle change, one she had thoroughly enjoyed.

‘‘The regular customers make it really enjoyable, you become friends with them over time,’’ she said.

Glasson’s Art is located at 151 High St, Shepparton.

Visit Robyn from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday and 9.30 am to 1 pm Saturday.
