Mooroopna Women’s Football Club is raring to go this season after receiving sporting equipment as part of the Macca’s on Your Team program.
The initiative was launched in 2016 to provide essential sporting equipment to community, soccer, basketball and AFL clubs in Victoria.
The program aims to ensure all Victorians have access to safe and inclusive community sporting programs to lead an active lifestyle.
Cats coach Britt Tancred said she was extremely grateful Mooroopna McDonald’s nominated her team.
‘‘The equipment will provide an immense boost for our club,’’ she said.
‘‘We received heaps of new equipment, which is great. It will help us with our training.’’
McDonald’s people resources manager Cheryl Tapscott said it was great the store was able to support young girls doing what they loved.
‘‘It is wonderful to be part of the initiative and be able to support the local clubs,’’ she said.
A number of the girls in the team work at the Mooroopna McDonald’s store, which Miss Tancred said was also supportive of their hobby.
‘‘Four of the girls in the team work at McDonald’s,’’ she said.
‘‘They are great with working around our rosters and letting us train . . . we cannot thank them enough.’’
With the introduction of the AFL Women’s league last year, McDonald’s is supporting the growth in women’s football participation by providing equipment packs to newly formed AFL teams.
The Mooroopna girls team was formed in 2016 and is open to anyone older than 18 with no fitness level required.
Miss Tancred encouraged anyone to get involved and consider playing football in the fun and inclusive environment.
