Tatura resident locks in her support for a cause

May 17, 2018

Taylor Wereszczuk’s positive attitude and drive to help others has inspired her to shave her locks and raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Three weeks ago, Tatura’s Taylor Wereszczuk, 17, received the news of her aunty’s leukaemia diagnosis.

Inspired to support her family and help in efforts to find a cure, Miss Wereszczuk decided to shave off her blonde locks to raise funds for the Amiable Foundation.

Miss Wereszczuk signed up with the World’s Greatest Shave and started sharing her cause online with family and friends.

Within 24 hours, she had already received $2600, meeting her initial fundraising target.

‘‘I can’t believe how supportive people have been,’’ she said.

‘‘My aunty rang me bawling her eyes out, she has been really supportive.’’

Completing VCAL at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE with the goal of becoming a nurse, Miss Wereszczuk’s positive attitude and drive to help others has led her to raise her target.

She is undecided whether the goal will now be $10 000 or $15 000.

Miss Wereszczuk works at the Tatura Hotel, which has offered to host the shave and a small event for her cause on Friday, October 12.

The event will also involve an auction and funds raised on the night will be provided to the Leukaemia Foundation and directly to her aunty to help support her and her family.

‘‘I’m a little scared but hair always grows back,’’ Miss Wereszczuk said.

‘‘Anyone who wants to come on board and shave as well is welcome.’’
