Liz Ladas is no stranger to the community.
For many years she was a smiling face behind the counter at Leo and Lisa’s Cafe in Benalla Rd, Shepparton.
After she and her husband sold the business a few years ago, she now donates her time to help those in need and give back to the community that supported her.
For the second consecutive year, she is holding a succulent sale to raise funds for Give Me 5 for Kids.
‘‘After we sold the business I thought, ‘how can I help?’ — so I thought about holding a succulent sale,’’ she said.
‘‘I held one last year which was successful but it could be a lot better.’’
Ms Ladas is holding the sale on Saturday, June 16, from 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday, June 17, from 9 am to 2 pm at 24 Canterbury Ave, Shepparton.
Last year, she raised $1500 for Give Me 5 For Kids and this year she is hoping to go one better.
The succulents are arranged in pots, trays and creatively in a variety of sizes and styles.
Ms Ladas said there were a number of succulents in each arrangement, with prices ranging from $5 to $30.
‘‘I get all the bits and pieces and I arrange them and plant them,’’ she said.
‘‘They are really good value for what I put in them . . . you can go and buy one little one for $10 — whereas most of those (her one) have four or five different varieties of succulents in each.’’
Ms Ladas said as well as raising money from the succulents last year, a number of generous residents gave donations.
She encouraged everyone to come along, snap up a beautiful succulent and help raise money for a worthy cause.
‘‘Every little bit helps, even when you think it is not very much money, but it is all for a good cause’’ Ms Ladas said.
‘‘I enjoy gardening, so it gives me something to do with my time.’’
